Amyl And The Sniffers share many qualities with their namesake - they kick in fast, give you a buzz, and are mildly disorienting for a brief time. 2017’s Big Attraction was a retro hard rock ripper from the Melbourne punks, Fever To Tell-era Yeah Yeah Yeahs chucked in a blender with Motörhead. Their ferocious live reputation attracted the attention of ATO (King Gizzard, Chicano Batman) who has released this self-titled debut. “Starfire 500†sets the stage with big distorted chords leading the way to the half-speed thrash of “Gacked on Angerâ€. “GFY†is an album highlight, raw bass riffage facing fierce competition from vocalist Amy Taylor’s coarse howl. “Got You†is big garage riffs and sing-song spoken vocals. The disc ends with a reworked version of bold breakup anthem “Some Mutts (Can’t Be Muzzled)â€, sporting an extended guitar intro and pummeling drums.
